Scientific consensus confirms that containing global warming to 1.5C cannot be achieved without preventing and reversing nature loss. The unprecedented decline of biodiversity presents substantial and often unrealized to businesses, causing disruption to supply chains, increasing regulatory compliance costs and eroding social license. 

Business leadership is critical to realize these targets, especially for our ocean – the planet’s biggest carbon sink and is home to most of earth’s biodiversity. Despite the ocean’s major role, SDG 14 ‘Life Below Water’ remains the least funded SDG to date. With 90% of fish populations depleted, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, the ocean is in a dire state. 

While the discrepancy between climate change action and biodiversity action exists, there is an increasing recognition of the need for a more integrated approach to address both issues comprehensively.
